Dear Doot:
What's the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax?
Soy wax is a natural product derived from soybeans - grown by America's farmers! Paraffin wax is a waste byproduct of processing petroleum.
Dear Doot:
Paraffin wax is a waste byproduct? Wow, that sounds really nasty! Is it harmful?
Unfortunately, yes. Paraffin wax is loaded with poisons and toxins which are released into your home as you burn them! Soy Wax Candles contain NO TOXINS. They are biodegradable, burn virtually soot-free and do not release any harmful hydrocarbons or carcinogens into your home.
Dear Doot:
I love to burn candles, but they never seem to last! What's different about soy candles?
Soy wax candles burn up to 40% longer than paraffin wax candles of comparable size. Think of the value you are getting! Plus, as an added benefit, you are helping American farmers!
Dear Doot:
What makes your soy candles so special?
Well, all my candles are hand made from beginning to end. We use 100% pure soy wax and fragrance oils specifically formulated for use in soy wax. We make all our candles from scratch - including adding scent and color - as well as hand pouring each and every one.
Dear Doot:
Why don't you use regular fragrance oils in your candles?
Regular fragrance oils are made up of mostly alcohol, which burns off quickly as your candle burns. Also, many fragrance oils, when used with the natural soy wax, can create a "scent distortion", which means what smells good in the jar may not smell the same as the candle burns. My specially formulated fragrance oils don't dissipate with the heat of burning and they are just as strong at the bottom of the jar as at the top! You get a strong, pure fragrance from the first time you light your candle to the last!
Dear Doot:
I hate it when my candles burn down the middle and leave all that wasted wax around the outside of the jar. Do soy candles do that?
We've all experienced that "tunneling" effect that is so frustrating (not to mention expensive) when burning candles. To help avoid that problem, you should always make sure your candle wick is trimmed to approximately 1/4 inch before lighting. Another reason candles don't burn evenly is the high burning temperature of paraffin wax candles. The heat simply melts the middle of the candle before the wax at the outside of the container can melt. You WON'T have that problem with Doot's Soy Wax Candles!!! Because soy wax burns at a cooler temperature, the whole surface of the candle will melt evenly and burn evenly ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM! Don't be surprised to find, when your candle is finished burning, that you have virtually NO WAX RESIDUE left inside the jar! You really do get more for your money.
Dear Doot:
I've spilled melted wax on surfaces in my home before, and I can never get the wax cleaned up! What about your candles?
Never fear! Soy wax can be easily cleaned up with hot soapy water!!
Dear Doot:
What if I spill some soy wax on a table cloth or on my clothing? How do I get that out?
This is a method that will take soy wax as well as other types of wax from fabric . . . Place a towel on your ironing board and lay the wax stain on top of it. Put a layer of paper toweling over the wax stain (I use a double layer). Place a warm iron, no steam, on the paper towel and 'blot', don't rub. Check the stain often, you will begin to see the wax soaking into the paper towel and out of your fabric! Once you have gotten all the wax you can out of the fabric, treat it with your favorite laundry stain remover and wash in the hottest water temperature recommended for your fabric.
Here's another benefit of Doot's Soy candles: Since soy wax is a natural vegetable wax - it will come out of your fabric more easily. Doot also uses naturally derived colors for her candles, so there will be less likelihood of permanent color stains as well!
Dear Doot:
Is your name really Doot?
Well, it's not the name my parents gave me . . . But my grandchildren do call me Doot. We're not sure why, but my grandson gave me the name when he was just a toddler - and it stuck! And by the way, we DO live in a Blue House, so that's how Doot's Blue House Candles came to be!
